Norma Leclair, Ph.D., RN, LCPC: I have more than 35 years experience promoting individual health and well-being, work restoration, and organizational performance. I bring a wealth of human relations experience to my psychotherapy and consultation work. I have learned that the capacity to succeed depends more on how we relate to each other than our technical knowledge or analytical abilities. Our capacity to engender trust, build relationships, and listen without judgment is fundamental to both personal fulfillment and organizational success.
As a psychotherapist, I use a variety of approaches in my practice. These approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (a form of cognitive behavioral therapy), insight therapy, and mindfulness meditation. I enjoy working with adults who have depression, anxiety and chronic pain or illness issues. I also appreciate working with people who have experienced trauma.
I have a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and enjoy working with employers, health care providers and insurers to support employees with an illness or injury to return to work when they are able to do so. My nursing background and doctoral degree in Counseling have helped me become a leading expert on the relationship between complex medical issues, psychiatric impairment, and work restoration. I also served as the consulting editor for psychiatric disorders for the 2001 edition of the Medical Disability Advisor. I have authored numerous articles, monographs and book chapters related to impairment and disability. Several articles have appeared in recent issues of the AMA Guides Newsletter. I co-authored "Impairment and Disability: Mental and Behavioral Disorders" in the Clinics in Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
I grew up in Dexter, Maine and received my BS from The University of Southern Maine. My husband, Steve and I lived in the midwest for a number of years. I earned my MA from the University of Iowa and my Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. I returned to Maine to be near my family and to live in the midst of this state's natural beauty.
Steven Leclair, Ph.D., CRC: I also have more than 35 years experience promoting individual health and well-being, organizational performance, work ability and work restoration. I have had many wonderful opportunities to work and grow among people with diverse points of view and experiences. I truly appreciate what an individual and an organization can accomplish when we communicate openly, with integrity and respect.
At the core of my psychotherapeutic approach is a reliance on collaboration, trust and the belief that we all have the power to heal and grow. A variety of approaches are used in my practice, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (a form of cognitive behavioral therapy), existential insight therapy, and mindfulness meditation. I look forward to my work with adults who experience depression, anxiety, traumatic stress or the challenges of illness, injury, and chronic pain.
My background as both a licensed psychologist and a certified rehabilitation counselor has helped me gain considerable experience in psychological assessment and evaluating work restoration possibilities. As a consultant, I have worked collaboratively with hundreds of employers and organizations both nationally and internationally to help them develop practical and cost effective disability prevention and work restoration programs. I have written more than 50 publications including books, book chapters, articles and monographs related to counseling, rehabilitation, and work. My professional life has included work as a psychotherapist, faculty member at The Ohio State University, mental health administrator, researcher, non-profit executive and organizational consultant.
I grew up in Augusta, Maine and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono. I moved to the midwest with my wife, Norma, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a MA degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Psychology. Like Norma, I was delighted to return to my roots in Maine in the 1990's to be near my family and the natural beauty of our home state.
